The night sky puts on a glorious display in the heart of the Pyrenees, atop Port de Ratera, only overlooked by the peaks of the Serra de Saboredo.

great shot! I'm still an amateur, so maybe I'm just missing something....but it says the shutter speed was 1/13s with a F/13.0 aperture?! How the heck did you get that much light at those settings and 100 ISO?

Great catch. This is a multi-exposure blend. I started out with the base exposure for the lights - my test shot, if you want, for composition when there was still enough light to allow for such short exposures. I then waited till the sun had set and eventually about an hour longer. I then shot the landscape at f/13 and 20 seconds, ISO 100. For the night sky, I left the camera untouched for about another hour. The star exposure was shot at ISO 800, f/2.8 for 20 seconds. I pulled the daylight exposure into PS as my base layer to check for alignment of the layers. I hope that helps clearing some of the confusion.

Ah, that makes sense. Sounds like a lot of work! I've taken night shots with 1-2 min exposures with decent results, but I can't imagine sitting around for an hour! I assume you take them in RAW? Does the camera have to spend time after the exposure to do any processing? I notice with RAW+JPEG setting on my D3100 it takes about as long as the exposure time to actually process and come around.

Amazing photo though!

This is a beautiful image! Your description of the process to achieve it is is quite scary I have to admit: Great work!
